The “Science” of the Christian

Romans and Galatians are the most important books for the Christian.  They show us “how” the Christian life works according to God’s intention that we would live in liberty as sons and heirs.

Romans chapters 1-4 deal with how God has vindicated his way of making sinners right with Him.  We discover that it is not only man that is on trial.  God is on trial, and He has set forth Christ as the manifestation of His righteousness in forgiving and reconciling us to Himself and making us His children, even though we were ungodly sinners!

Romans 5-8 is the “Science” of the Christian life. It should not be read in a “religious way.” We should approach it with our minds open and engaged to understand the principles of how the Christian life works now that we have been transferred out of Adam and into Christ, and now that Christ has come into us to be our life.  All admonitions in the epistles of Paul take for granted that the Christian understands “how” this works.

"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin." Rom. 6:4-6
