Newness of life.

Romans 1-8 shows us the function of the law, which was to bring us to agreement with God’s judgment on the fallenness of man, which was exhibited in the cross of Christ.  We agree that we were not only forgiven but we were righteously judged and “put away” (crucified) with Christ, the Last Adam. Now God has begun something New with the resurrection of Christ, who dwells in us as the Spirit.

"But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you." Rom 8:9-11

We are to present ourselves to Him with the expectation that by the working of His power, He will bring us into newness of life and newness of spirit.

"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." Rom 6:4

"But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter." Rom 7:6

This agreement is called the “renewing of the mind,” and it transforms us…

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Rom 12:1-2

…bringing us out of the atmosphere of condemnation, death, slavery, bondage and fear and into the liberty of the sons of God and the atmosphere of the spirit of sonship

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." Rom 8:1

Thus we will walk according to the Spirit, and we “reign in life by the one, Jesus Christ”.

"For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ." Rom 5:17
