We are not just adopted into God’s family; we are born into God’s family. We are regenerated. We have received another life, the resurrected Life of Christ Himself!
"And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together." Romans 8:17
Our sonship is not just a status change.
We will be manifested as sons of God in resurrection. God’s life has been planted in us as a seed and is growing, and the harvest will be in the resurrection, or the rapture if we are alive.
Notice, God says “I will be His Father, and He will be My Son.” This is a big deal.
- He bore our punishment even though He did not sin. That is called substitutionary atonement.
- He became sin who knew no sin that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
- He took our punishment and tasted our death, which was rightfully ours. It was not His own.
- As His glorified Brethren, we will not just be floating around in heaven doing nothing, but we will return with Him to reign on the earth for a thousand years.
