Understanding comes by seeing Christ as Sanctification and Life.
That’s why the understanding of reward is really based on a proper understanding of sanctification. You have to get the source of satisfaction right first. We are not going to be “Rewarded” because we sinned less than someone else. He’s coming “without sin unto salvation.”
“So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” Heb 9:28
And His reward is with Him
“And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” Rev 22:12
His reward is for what remains of the service of building and planting. As it says in 1 Corinthians 3, “You are God’s field, you are God’s building. I planted, and Apollos watered. God gave the increase.“
Even though we’re nothing, we will receive a reward for the work, and yet we are one.
Then he says, “I’ve laid a foundation, and you’re going to build on it.” That foundation is Jesus Christ. You need to watch what material you build with. Gold, silver, and precious stones are incorruptible materials that will make it through the fire. (1 Cor 3:10-13). The reward is for the things that remain.
WOnly the things that remain are incorruptible, and these consist of Christ’s life.
