Friends, not slaves.

The Sons of God are really in a privileged position. We get the explanation. Jesus said:

"I no longer call you servants, but friends. The servant doesn't know what His master is doing. But I tell you what I'm doing, and therefore I call you friends" John 15:15

We have been made friends of God through Faith.

Not only that, but we have been made sons of God and brothers of Christ. He has given us an inheritance that is described in a body of truth concerning how this whole thing works. This is in the epistles.

"And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified." Acts 20:32

The Apostles were the stewards in God’s economy who wrote the epistles according to the revelation that Christ had given them to teach the Sons of God how the household of God works and how the life of Christ works.

"Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit." Ephesians 2:19-22
