The New Creation is found only in Christ, and Flows Out of God as Living Water to Refresh

The New Creation in Jesus Christ

Gal 6:15-16    “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.”

The new creation of God is the mystery of the Christian life and it’s rule.  John Nelson Darby was one of the first since the reformation who clearly taught the new man in Christ as separate from the old creation and reconciled directly to God.  The brethren led the way to seeing that the Christian life was not a matter of rule keeping but identification with Christ in His death and resurrection.

JN Darby wrote, “The new man, in Christ, is separate from the old creation and is reconciled directly to God.” And also, “The Christian life is not a matter of keeping commandments, but of having a vital union with the Lord Jesus Christ.” This truth is clearly stated in Ephesians 2, where it says, “In Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”

The Renewal of Our Being

The life of the new creation is not just a change of behavior, but a complete renewal of our being. This is evident in the teaching of Miles Stanford, who emphasized that the new creation in Jesus Christ is joined to the Lord as one spirit. As he wrote, “The new creation in Jesus Christ is not just a change of behavior, but a … renewal of our being, joined to the Lord as one spirit.” This truth is clearly stated in 1 Corinthians 6:17, where it says, “He who is joined to the Lord is one Spirit.”

The Hidden Reality of the New Creation

The reality of the new creation is not just external, but internal and hidden, as taught by William Newell. He saw the new creation in Christ as a hidden reality, at the right hand of God, not found in our flesh but in the spirit of the believer. As he wrote, “The new creation in Christ is a hidden reality, at the right hand of God, not found in our flesh but in the spirit of the believer.” This truth is clearly stated in Colossians 3:3, where it says, “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” The new creation in Jesus Christ is not just a concept, but a life-giving reality, as emphasized by all of these leaders. As stated in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

The Continual Renewal of Knowledge

In conclusion, the new creation in Jesus Christ is only known through a continual renewal of our knowledge of Him. This renewal is enjoyed by drinking the Living Water, which is the Spirit of Christ. As stated in Colossians 3:10, And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him

By drinking of Christ more often and continually, we are satisfied with Him and partake of the new creation. The focus of this transformation is primarily internal and leads to a total change in our concept of who we are in Christ. As stated in John 7:38, “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'” The goal of the Christian life is to partake in the new creation by drinking of Christ and being continually renewed in the knowledge of Him!
