Chapter 15 section 7 What if the miracles are real?

One question for Charismatics especially is whether or not a prophet is truly of God because the miracles are real. I believe in miracles and the gifts of the Spirit. But God warns about these as well. Moses told the people that even if the miracles that are performed are real, the content of what is said is what is important. In many cases God will allow for genuine miracles to be accomplished by a false prophet as a test to the believers to know if they’re really after God’s heart.

Deu 13:1  If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;  Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

We should also not forget that the Lord promised that many would come to him having prophesied in His name and cast out devils and done mighty works but would be rejected. In addition, He said that false prophets would come in His name performing great signs and wonders that would possibly even deceive the elect:

Matt 7:22   Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?   And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

In another interesting mention, Paul speaks of Jannes and Jambres. These were the two wiseman that were counselors to Pharoah. They duplicated the first three miraculous signs of Moses in an attempt to discredit the uniqueness of Jehovah:

2Ti 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth…

Obviously these were real miracles, yet Paul says that they will be performed as acts of rebellion.
